Singing Mamas Community Leader Training
Use your voice to change women's lives
Any woman can train as a Singing Mamas leader. You don't need to be a trained musician or have any experience leading singing. We're looking for diverse women who want to be a voice for their community and normalise singing together for better wellbeing.Â
The Singing Mamas training is all about supporting YOU to step into leadership with confidence and purpose, whatever your starting point.
Watch this video to get a glimpse inside the training and find out more about what you can expect.
Why this training?
Singing Mamas are an award-winning movement for perinatal mental wellbeing and our groups reach thousands of women and babies every week.
We have trained women from across the world in our evidence-based approach and we work in partnership with leading academics and researchers in the field.
When you train with Singing Mamas you join a global network of inspirational women who will become your friends and colleagues in this work.

You'd like to work in your own community
You want to join a network of inspirational women
Singing makes you smile

There are 4 parts to the Singing Mamas training; learn, discuss, practice and reflect. You'll join a cohort of 15 other women from around the world and begin by working through 8 online modules, coming together every week for a live zoom session with Founder Kate Valentine. As your confidence grows you'll be supported to translate this learning into real-life practice, eventually completing and submitting a reflective assessment which documents your learning journey. Have a look below for more information on each component of the training.
LEARN
Online Content
After signing up you will be given access to our online training portal where you’ll find 8 modules covering the fundamentals you’ll need to deliver effective singing for perinatal mental wellbeing sessions. You can complete this content on a PC or laptop, or download an app where you can access the content on the go on your phone. We’d suggest allowing 1 – 2hrs for each module which will include videos, written material and tasks for you to complete.
DISCUSS
Weekly Group Workshops
Our group workshops take place live each week via Zoom over 8 consecutive weeks. Each workshop will pick up the same theme as the online content and offer you an opportunity to: dive deeper into particular parts of the online content, connect with your cohort of trainees, share reflections and benefit from the collective wisdom of the group.
These sessions will be led by founder, Kate Valentine, who will be there to support you through your journey.Â
PRACTISE
Explore Song Sharing
This is where you flex those song sharing muscles! At your own pace, you will accrue 20 hours of informal song sharing experience, keeping a reflective journal to document your journey and enable you to discuss them in your group workshops. Your 20 hours will include a mixture of observation, practice, leading and reflecting.
For example, you might observe a Singing Mamas session in person, share songs with friends or family, offer a taster session in your community or attend our Song Leader Development Days (more info on these below).
REFLECT
Reflective Assessment
Throughout the 'learn', 'discuss' and 'practise' parts of the course you will be prompted to keep a reflective journal to document your progress. To complete the course you will submit a final reflective exercise which pulls all of this together in a format that works best for you. You might make a short video, an audio recording or a written essay. We'd suggest allowing 3-4 hours to review all your previous work and put together your final piece.

I felt that the training was a really safe and inclusive space where I could give things a go.
I was so nervous about sharing my first song in the training, but I was so well supported by Kate and the other trainees that I did it and enjoyed it too!
Zoë, Cheltenham
It was recommended by a friend who had completed the training. I said I would never be able to teach adults, then got addicted to Songline during lockdown [our free Zoom song sharing]. I signed up for my training in July 2021 having never sung in a women's circle and that was it!
